Boston Marathon Eve

Hi there!

Glad so many of you enjoyed the guest post by my Mom, she thanks you all for the wonderful comments and support!

Thursday- rest (kinda forced)
Friday- ran 4 miles, easy
Saturday- ran 3 miles, easy

So that kinda forced rest on Thursday was after a visit to the physical therapist.  My plantars fasciitis is feeling MUCH better but my achilles and side of my ankle have been a bit sore, especially on longer runs. After talking with my PT and having him check out my ankle, he figured out I did have a little swelling of a tendon, the peroneal tendon.

peronealHe used the ultrasound on it and my achilles, which felt FABULOUS!  Then did some massage and then put an anti-inflammatory patch on the area that was inflamed.  The patch needed to stay on for 7-10 hours and I hadn’t run yet that day.  He said it would be best to let the patch do its work, so I postponed my run.  That spot feels SO MUCH BETTER now. Glad I rested and let my ankle enjoy the benefits of the patch.

As for today…..

I got up at 6 am to take the train to Boston.  Didn’t really NEED to get here this early but the 9am train sold out thanks to the Red Sox game this afternoon.  So I was in Boston at 8:30 this morning.  Luckily my Mom & Walter are already here with a hotel room.  So I met up with them and unloaded my gear before heading to the Expo with my Mom.

As usual the Expo was crazy busy!

Got my number…..

Then hit the crowds in the Expo.

After fighting the crowds we needed to get off our feet, so we headed to a Seminar in one of the side rooms.  It was on race day nutrition pre, during and post race.   Mainly don’t OD are carb loading the night before…. due to the 10am start we have opportunity for two breakfasts, 1 when we get up around 5:30 or so, then another one around 8 or so…… post race make sure to get nutrients down within 15 minutes and keep hydrating.  Also add salt if you are a salty sweater, add salt packets to water… not a crazy amount so you really taste it but just a little something to get some extra salt in.

From there we ventured out to take the obligatory Finish Line photos. :-)

Of course when we were at the finish line it started to pour, then once we were on our way back to the hotel, the sun came out.  It has been kind of a crazy weather day here.  Fortunately tomorrow looks MUCH better.

Upper 40’s to mid 50’s. Partly cloudy with kind of a cross tailwind. I’ll take it.

We headed out to dinner at the early hour of 5:30….  Well I thought it was early but instead we had about a half hour wait.  All I wanted was PASTA with a little meat sauce for protein. That’s what I got.

I’m going to attempt a quick blog update via phone tomorrow, but if not I’ll be back after the race!

If you want to follow me on www.baa.org my  number is 11,321 and my mom is 22,087.

My clothes are all laid out, I got my Gu’s and pre-race snacks set aside, my post race gear is packed……Now off to bed!

Hope you had a great weekend!!

Britt
