Back on track!

Day one of having a training plan again and I’m an overachiever.  ;-)

It was a two workout kind of day, I had kettlebell on my schedule but also NEEDED a run.  Yes, I required a run for my sanity.  Do you ever get a bit grumpy when you don’t get your workout in?  Even though kettlebell involved a sledgehammer again, I really needed a RUN.

So my day started at 5:30am, got ready, walked the pooch and then to kettlebell at 6am.

WORKOUT- Partner workout. Work for a minute, rest while partner works.  Repeat 3 times, then go to next station.

Sumo Deadlift High Pull (16kg bell)
Box Jumps
Sledgehammer Hits (14lb hammer)
Row (aimed for 250m)
Push Press (8kg bells)

Fun workout! A minute is a long interval with some of those though. While doing the push presses my partner and I kept trying to remind the other of how “whimpy” the bells were and that they were nothing. Not sure if it really worked though, those suckers got heavy after awhile!

Then it was off to work for the day.  Had my usual oats, although the horror….. I reached the BOTTOM of my huge container of oats.  I have some steel cut oats I should really cook tonight.  (note to self, make them!)

We had our department luncheon today.  It was fairly uneventful.  I tried my darnedest to load up on veggies.  I did fairly well, but the homemade mac n’ cheese was too good looking to pass up.  Also a cookie or two made its way to my plate. I did feel the need for a healthier afternoon snack and had a clementine.

I totally spaced on a run with my mom tonight and only packed clothes for an indoor run.  Sorry mom!  Instead I hit the gym after work.  I planned to run maybe 3 or 4 miles, but around mile two I started to think about my schedule tomorrow and realized tonight might be the best time to get my 1st run of the week in.  So I ran 6 miles at a 8:34 pace. Treadmill runs really do suck though.  It wasn’t until about mile 3 that I got into my groove and relaxed a bit.  I run so much better and faster outside.  They are helpful though when you have crappy weather & darkness and for speed work when you are bad at pacing yourself…. that would be me!  Treadmill speed work has definitely helped me improve my race times.  It was a big factor in me improving my  marathon times!

Day one of my new training plan, I’m already ahead of plan with my Tuesday run done on Monday.  So today was a success in my book.

The one annoying thing though, while I was running I thought I’d just go to kettlebell at 6am tomorrow instead.  It wasn’t till I got home that I realized there is no 6am kettlebell tomorrow.  Duh!  I think I’ll take advantage of the free morning to do some yoga though.  Been meaning to do it more often.

I came home to an ambitious hubby after my run.  He was getting to work on the stuffing for Christmas dinner.  We received some homemade sausage from a friend so he suggested I make Sausage & Mushroom Lasagna to have on hand for later this week.  Before I got too sucked into the prep I made a quick salad.

While I worked on the lasagna the hubby made the rest of dinner.

We had hoped to keep our motivation going and make some more cookies, but that didn’t happen.  Instead we are watching the finale of Sing Off!  I love acapella music.  It reminds me of when the hubby and I were dating back in high school.  We went on a trip to Martha’s Vineyard with his sister to hang with some of her college friends who were part of an acapella group on the island.  It was so much fun!  The guys in the group were pretty hot…. but so is my now hubby.  ;-)

Have you done much baking in preparation for the holidays?  Have you been trying to do a healthy twist or not?

Hope you had a great Monday!

Britt

  1. Wow – two workouts! I envy your motivation at the moment. Mine is sorely lacking. I’m hoping potentially getting a Garmin for Christmas will get me back in action! Crossing my fingers!

Wait – who won the Sing Off? I watched a few episodes, but then totally forgot about this week: The Beelzebubs (sp)?

Hey girl! Way to hit it up hard on your first training day! I actually had a double workout yesterday (I had to teach Body Pump in the morning and in the afternoon and did a short run before each). I think I need yoga today too ;) Your dinner wrap looks fab.

I have been baking! Some of it has been “health-ified” Some has been plain ole sin :)
