Hi! What a busy day! Hope your Tuesday went well.
I headed into work early this morning, again. Still playing a little bit of catch up. Had the usual oats.
Thankfully today no packages arrived, well at least no packages that I was interested in. So I held out till lunch with no snacking.
Lunch time I walked the pooch and threw together a quick lunch.
Another field greens w/ pecans, blue cheese, cranberries & balsamic dressing
On the side I had some hummus & Wickles (spicy pickles) on half a wheat bun
The rest of the work day went by surprisingly fast. I think one of the things that helps me is listening to podcasts while I work. My current favorites, Two Gomers Run a Marathon & Gabrielle Bernstein. Very different, but the Gomers crack me up and I just stumbled across Gabrielle’s yesterday. At first I thought Gabrielle was a little out there for me, but I really love her positive message and her enthusiasm. I had attempted to start reading The Secret, which is kind of along the same lines but never really got into it. But I cannot wait to listen to more of Gabrielle’s lectures. Oh and Mom, I know you are out there…. hi. If you need a Christmas present idea, I would love Gabrielle’s new book! It is called Add More ing: A Hip Guide to Happiness and will be coming out in January but you can pre-order it. I also am checking out her new social networking site for women, www.herfuture.com , it sounds like a very supportive and positive network of women. Plus a little more happiness in my life couldn’t hurt.
So after work I FINALLY got my butt back to kettlebell. As we were “warming up” we joked about how our warm ups are considered a workout to some people.
Warm Up – repeated twice
- arm circles- forward & back -30 seconds each way
- sumo squats – 1 minute
- trunk rotations – 1 minute
- high kicks – 30 seconds each side
- side planks – 30 seconds each side
- inch worm, walking hands out to a push up postion and then back up
- push up to a side plank – 1 minute
then….
Workout – more of a cross fit workout today
- pull ups, as many as possible 5 times (groups of 3 people, so you rested between sets. I used the smallest elastic band and did out about 5)
- Then do the following 5 times, as fast as possible
- 30 situps
- 100 yard farmers walk w/80lbs
- 25 wallballs w/ 14lb ball (squat w/ the ball and then toss it UP against a wall, catch and then squat)
Those easy workouts always are killer!
We finished class the way we often do, with a foam roller. Have you experienced the joys of the foam roller yet? Self massage or myofascial release is awesome. Here is an article from the NY Times on becoming your own massage therapist. I love the foam rollers at the gym so much I got one for home. Until I used one I really had no appreciation for how TIGHT my IT band are…. OMG, ouch! I’ve also used the same principle for massaging my plantar fascia but using a golf ball or tennis ball. There are all kinds of videos on how to do it on You Tube. I highly recommend it in addition to stretching and working on flexibility.
Finally I headed home….. and found a disaster. Ugh.
Our poor fat Christmas tree……
Fell over.
Old family ornaments from the grandparents… smashed. So sad.
Not sure if it was the dog, the stand, something the husband did last night while working on the fireplace. But we cleaned things up, got the tree back up and salvaged what we could. The tree is now tied up with wire and to the wall. It better not fall again.
After cleaning up that mess and walking the pooch I had to pick up CSA veggies, which made me realize we have WAY too many veggies. So I spent the rest of the evening cooking veggies. While doing that I whipped together a quick dinner.
DINNER- pasta w/ TJ’s marinara & chicken sausage
Also enjoyed a little of my favorite new snack/dessert…. TJ’s PB filled pretzels w/ chocolate chips
So what did I cook tonight?
- -stir fried pak choi, cabbage & beet greens
- -roasted beets
- -roasted potatoes
- -sauteed kohlrabi
- -sauteed Tokyo turnips
I feel so much better about our vegetable situation now. It is so much easier when everything is already cooked. Although I have baking to do tomorrow, as tomorrow night I’m having a few friends over for a Swanky Cookie Swap. Luckily I am taking a half day to prep and get things ready. This is the same crew I did tea with last month, I cannot wait!
Are you going to or have you gone to a cookie swap this year? What is your favorite type of cookie to make? I haven’t decided what I’m making yet, but I’m thinking something orange flavored….. I love orange zest in baked goods. Yum!
Have a great night!
Britt

Hi Britt,
I just found your blog through Healthy Tipping Point, and had a few questions about marathon training. I just finished my first one in July, and am starting to train for my second. I qualified for Boston, but unfortunately did not register before it closed because I was out of the country. My goal is to qualify again and run in 2011. Do you have an e-mail address? Thanks!
