This Old House

After all the fabulous food yesterday I needed to get a run in this morning.

I took my time getting up though.  Oh how I wish during the week I could rise with the sun, instead of before it.  ::grumble grumble::   I got up around 8, walked the pooch and was on the road by 8:30.

I ventured out on a route I run a lot…. not sure how far I would go.  I have options for 6 or more miles with various add-ons.  Unfortunately my knee was bothering me a bit, a new occurrence, however it eventually went away.  Um, but once I was nearing 6 miles…. nature called so I headed home.

I did snap a photo along the way.  Haven’t done that in awhile since I haven’t really done any real long runs lately…. and most of my run that I have done have been in the dark!

Any how on my run today I ran by this 170+ year old home that is being restored.

Yep that is actually a guy out there working on it.  So glad to see this house is being restored and taken care of.  Last year there was question as to if it was going to be saved, there was a developer looking at tearing it down if no one would take the challenge of restoring it on.  Thankfully it was purchased by an owner that will preserve the home’s details and bring it back to its original beauty…. with a few modern updates.

The hubby and I are old home lovers.  We religiously watch This Old House and actually bought a 100+ year old home.  Unfortunately our home wasn’t in the greatest shape, it had gone through some AWFUL renovations.  We ended up gutting a good portion of the house.  We purchased it in May of 2005 but did not move in till October of 2005.  Then we did another round of renovations starting in July of 2007, we eventually had to move out and did not move back in again till October 2007 (we slept on an air mattress during that time…. it was fabulous…).  ;-)

Any how…. if you aren’t one of my poor friends that had to hear me lament about the horrors of home renovations….. here is a link to a page we created documenting some of it.  Oh and we aren’t done yet!  We eventually want to renovate our 3rd floor into a master suite, get rid of our huge ugly garage and replace it with a single car garage so that we actually have a backyard (current garage is over 1,000 square feet).

So after that long tangent into houses…..  I ran just over 6 miles, about a 10k, in around 50 minutes.  So about an 8 minute pace.

I’m feeling great, the knee soreness went away after mile 3.  Not sure what that was all about.  My foot definitely still hurts from the plantar fasciitis though.  I also spaced on icing my foot after my run.  I will try and do some stretches tonight before bed.  Focusing on my foot and my calf, as it is definitely tied to my calf.

BREAKFAST

I was distracted after my run because the hubby was making waffles.  Mickey Waffles!

To which I added some pomegranate seeds & some real maple syrup.

Yum!  Had that times 2.  So hard to just have one waffle.

The rest of the morning was spent cleaning the deck & the yard.  I still had lots of pots on the deck that needed to get emptied and carted down to the garage.  Then there were a few more leaves to be raked & bagged…. blah.  Sick of leaves.

Then we did some errands to Home Depot (weekend just isn’t complete without one trip there), Target and the grocery store. We mainly got items we need to make dishes for Thanksgiving, our fridge is bursting at the seams with veggies from our crop share…. so we are in “eat what we got” mode.  Plus we have lots of lasagne left still.

Lunch was snacking on some cheese & crackers.  I don’t eat normal meals on the weekend usually.  Especially when I eat breakfast so late after running.

Dinner however was a little more substantial.

DINNER- field greens w/ gorgonzola, walnuts, dried cranberries & balsamic vinaigrette.  left over lasagne.

Forgot to mention the other day that we hit up the local winter farmers’ market.  We are so lucky to live in an area that continues farmers’ markets into late December.  Since we have our CSA we didn’t need any veggies really.

Well except for some brussel sprouts…..  (yes I’m addicted)

Also got a bag of onions for making stuffing.  They also had some folks with baked goods, local meats, fish, jams/jellies/salsas, etc.  The hubby snagged a traditional whoopie pie and I got a fabulous pumpkin one….. um they were camera shy.  ;-)

Hope the last of your weekend is going well.  Monday comes so quickly, I’m very happy it will be a short week though!!

Have a great night!

Britt
